Internal Website Content Audit

A pain point for our users was they would pull character count recommendations from the design system and then plug their content into their pages to find it inconsistent. Along with our dedicated editor and a product designer, we revamped our beloved website to be shinny and new.

I worked with our editor and a product designer to compare each text field with established guidelines.

Execution

We made sure what we were asking our stakeholders to publish was reflected accurately.

Results

Our content docs were approved and submitted to the overseas team for pages to be updated.

The Audit

We created a content matrix for each design system page including the home pages, component pages, and other landing pages. We separated out the current character counts with what established guidelines set forth by the design team.

Character counts help stakeholders adhere to industry standards when writing for web, mobile, and localization.

Execution

We also took the opportunity to clean up much of the content. Some of the content was either not relevant, confusing, or too long. We updated it based on style guide, brand voice, and character count guidelines. From there we created content docs to submit to the overseas team for updating and publishing the pages.

Results

After publishing updated character counts across the site, average bounce rates dropped on popular pages from 14% to 9%.
